Remote Work Chronicles: Amanda Mieczkowski

BAM's Lessons from Dandapani: Unveiling the Power of Purpose

Like most companies across the United States, BAM went fully remote in March of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, work has looked a little different for us this year. BAM made sure to equip team members with the necessary office equipment needed to make at remote work…work. But in true BAMf form, our team members took it a step further building out some pretty inspiring, functional, and productive spaces to get their work done each day. In this series on remote work, we take you inside our team's work-from-home spaces.

Today, we're chatting with Amanda Mieczkowski, Senior Account Executive at BAM. Amanda is a member of BAM's NYC team and transitioned to remote work last March.

Q: Tell us about your WFH space.

I have recently moved to Stamford, Connecticut with my boyfriend and when we were picking out our dream space, we knew we needed enough room for both of us to comfortably work from home for the foreseeable future (did I mention COVID-19?). While he works out of our bedroom, my desk is stationed in the corner of our living room, facing a beautiful big window that overlooks a nice-looking church and a park. There is a ton of natural light and I get to see cars and people pass by on the streets below during the day. My Spotify playlists and my second monitor are a huge help to my productivity.

Q: What’s your favorite part of your WFH space?

I’d have to say the big window takes the cake for being my favorite, but I do also love having a clean workspace. I work better when I have minimal distractions, and I’m someone who gets distracted by clutter. My glass desktop usually consists of my monitors, eyeglasses case, chapstick, and a cup of coffee and/or water. Everything else must go.

Q: What about remote work has surprised you?

When we first started working from home, I felt the pressure to always prove I was online and working. I thought, at first, that it was more stressful than working from the office. After a few months of this new normal, I realized that my teams weren’t pressuring me, I was pressuring myself. I realized then that working remotely allowed some flexibility in my day, whether that is to cook up something delicious for lunch or to take some time during the day to squeeze in a quick workout. I like the idea of breaking up the day with a small activity.

Q: What’s your best WFH advice?

Get up from your desk! I find myself to be more creative and productive when I take a few small breaks throughout the day to reset in between tasks. This was an adjustment at first, but once I forced myself to get up and either stretch, go on a quick walk, or even just walk into a different room for a few minutes, I come back to my desk feeling more refreshed and energized. I’m looking forward to the warm weather to take some outside walks during the day.

Q: What is a must-have for you?

This is the foodie in me talking, but a solid lunch and snacks keep me full and energized for the day. I plan out my lunches to make sure they are satisfying and I also keep healthy snacks on deck for when I get extra cravings. Besides, who can concentrate when they’re hungry?!
