Case Study

Collide Capital

Collide Capital is Black-owned VC firm ushering in a new era of venture capital where opportunities go to the most deserving, not the most privileged

THE CHALLENGE

Black founders are disproportionately underfunded, receiving 1.3% of venture dollars in 2021. In 2022, these numbers aren’t much better, as Black founders accounted for 0.43% of the total $43 billion VC money deployed in Q3. The answer lies beyond diversity mandates.

Collide Capital came to BAM to help announce their $66M Fund I with backing from Twitter, Alphabet, and Amazon, among many others. During the campaign, Collide’s Fund I announcement was pushed back several times, limiting the opportunity to lay a smooth groundwork during and immediately following the launch. Despite these challenges, BAM exceeded KPIs in national publications, as well as key local and trade press.

THE GOAL

The goal was to establish Collide Capital as the intersectional fund creating on-ramps for seed & pre-seed companies, connecting founders with strategic pools of capital from investors who may not have had these founders on their radar. BAM positioned Collide as the fund bridging the gap to help connect these communities more efficiently and to give their founders a sizable advantage in hiring great talent, developing go-to-market strategies, and scaling their businesses over time.

THE SOLUTION

BAM’s strategy to make a splash with Collide Capital’s Fund I news hinged on perfecting the firm’s messaging, social strategy, and a successful exclusive media outreach approach. BAM leveraged Collide Capital’s nontraditional style, highlighting the firm as the first to be simultaneously backed by Twitter, Alphabet, and Amazon. BAM leveraged the founders’ community-building background through their roles with AfroTech and BLCK VC.
